AI Copilot

An AI copilot is an assistant embedded in a software product that helps a user complete their own work faster: drafting, summarizing, answering questions, or suggesting next steps. It responds to requests and generates text or recommendations while the user remains the one who acts. That is the line between a copilot and an agent, which plans and executes tasks itself through tools in a reason-act-observe loop.

Copilots are intent-driven: they run when asked, inside the application they belong to, and they know that application's context (documents, calendar, tickets). They do not know an organization's approval chains, grade structures, or policy dependencies unless a system that holds that context supplies it. In enterprise HR, a copilot is therefore a surface where work can be delivered, not the system that decides what the work should be.
